Grease became popular all over the world mainly due to its film adaptation in 1978. Randal Kleiser, the director, established the popularity of the American teen idol at the time, the actor, dancer and singer John Travolta, and the Australian singer Olivia Newton-John. The film and its soundtrack, including four songs by The Bee Gees, ensured that this musical would enjoy global popularity.
After success on Broadway, it moved to Australia and then to London where it introduced audiences to the then unknown actor Richard Gere in the title role.
The musical was staged by Mega Music Production in Slovakia in the fall of 2000. It was adapted by Jindrich Simek, the director and scriptwriter.

The original soundtrack of the film has been newly arranged and includes new songs composed in a style matching the playful and sweet nature of the original tunes.
